Modern Nursery with geometric and organic patterns

I picked out the color scheme first; duck egg, white, and orange. I decided to add a yellowy-green later and black and white. Because the color was my main inspirations, I decorated with patterns rather than specific motifs.
Although the rest of the house isn't modern, my first child's room is more traditional and I wanted to try a departure from that so I was going for a more clean, modern look .
For reasonably priced modern touches, I shopped at Ikea: Hemnes 3-Drawer Dresser $129 (at the time); Lack Wall Shelves across feature wall and we also used the Lack Wall Shelves in the niche which we cut to size; plain white window panels, dog tail hooks, and white frames.
We splurged on the ever popular Classic Oeuf Crib and found the Nurseryworks Storytime Rocker on sale on a discontinued fabric/color.
I made some custom crib bedding with a twin size bed set I found at a discount store with exactly the green color and a geometric pattern I was looking for from Jonathan Adler.
I like to add plush stuffed animals to the kids' rooms to give it warmth like the green alligator (Target $18) peering from the top shelf of the niche. I found some adorable monster wall decals and also ordered a couple of vinyl wall lettering rhymes. I picked out some nick-nacks like the Land of Nod suitcases, black and white blocks, Automoblox car, and art to in coordinating colors to decorate the long wall shelf.
I tried to create little spots of interest throughout the rooms with the monster decals peering out from behind the curtains, dog tail hooks behind the door with the vinyl lettering "snips and snails and puppy dog tails" -we all know the following line; fabric, leather, and metal bins for toys and plushies, etc. I also bought a small inexpensive CD player to play bedtime music.
And after watching Devine Design for many years, I really wanted to do some custom lighting -that center ceiling light always depresses me. We bought a pack of inexpensive 5" can lights at Lowes and installed them strategically to light up and feature items on each wall. We put them on a dimmer which is so convenient when putting little kids to bed at night. I'm not really into ceiling fans but it was a necessary item as this is the hottest bedroom in the house, but I found something modern-ish and boy-ish and I really like it now.
For me, the modern look requires restraint, sticking to the color scheme even with the little decorations and editing what you choose to have in the room. If budget allows, splurge on key items and save on smaller details by shopping at discount stores or making items yourself. And don't forget to add little items to warm up the room.

I do have a question, why don't most people put photos of the parents in their babies' rooms? In your case, where did you get the rocking sofa? I think the orange on white thing is just great.
